Jabrill Peppers, star safety and team captain for the New England Patriots, was arrested Saturday morning on serious charges, including assault, battery, and drug possession.
Police responded to a dispute at a residence in Braintree, Massachusetts, where a victim was treated. Peppers is facing multiple charges, including strangulation and possession of cocaine.
The Patriots acknowledged the incident, stating they are aware but will not comment further. Coach Jerod Mayo confirmed communication with Peppers and the NFL was informed.
Peppers was ruled out for Sunday’s game, with the Patriots recently signing him to a three-year extension.
